Removing Pet Urine Odor from Carpeting

We know you love your pet unconditionally, but sometimes they make it hard… like when they have an accident on your carpet. While it’s simple enough to blot up the mess and move on with your life, sometimes the smell of pet urine sticks around, invading your space in a most unpleasant way. But there’s good news for dog and cat owners: you can neutralize yucky pet smells in your carpet using a few simple household items!

3 Steps for Getting Rid of Dog & Cat Pee Smell

  1. First, you’ll want to blot up as much of the liquid as you can—paper towels work really well for this, as it’s easy to tell when you’ve absorbed most of the moisture.
  2. Once you’ve got the soiled carpet as dry as possible, re-saturate the area with a 50/50 white vinegar-water mixture. Allow the mixture up to 15-30 minutes to thoroughly penetrate the carpet fibers all the way down to their base.
  3. Next, you’ll restart the blotting process with paper towels. Keep this up until your formerly-soiled carpet feels pretty dry. For an added measure of protection against stinky carpeting, sprinkle baking soda on the area—this will add an extra level of stink removal—then vacuum up.

And that’s it!

With a little bit of effort, you can rest easy knowing that your carpets won’t be hanging on to any unwanted pet smells.

Next time you’re considering updating your floors, don’t think that being a pet owner means that you have to give up the comfort of carpeting. In fact, LifeProof carpet from MyFlooring is designed with stain protection built right into the carpet fibers—spills rarely make it past the surface of the carpet, making clean-up a breeze. And every LifeProof carpet comes with a premium moisture-resistant foam pad, offering further insurance against any pet odors penetrating below the carpet backing.

You AND your pets can Get Comfortable with having such a low-maintenance,  pet-friendly flooring option.

How to Get Wood Like Flooring for Less

In its early days, vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood was a sad imitation of the original. Real wood planks boast plenty of natural color variability, inconsistent knots, and grain markings, but vinyl or laminate floors didn’t quite hit the realism mark. We’re happy to report that modern LVP flooring is nearly indistinguishable from the real deal, and it comes with some clear advantages over hardwoods.
